Policy on Ex-Offender Recruitment

As an organization assessing applicants’ suitability for positions covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order, which involves criminal record checks processed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), we fully complies with the code of practice and pledges to treat all applicants fairly.

We will ensure no unfair discrimination against any subject of a criminal record check based on their convictions or other disclosed information. We will only request details of convictions and cautions that we are legally entitled to know about, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 as amended, and applicable Police Act Regulations.

Our commitment to fairness extends to our staff, potential staff, and service users, irrespective of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, responsibilities for dependents, age, physical/mental disability, or offending background. We actively promote equality of opportunity and welcome applications from diverse candidates, including those with criminal records.

The selection of candidates for interviews is solely based on their skills, qualifications, and experience. Before submitting an application, we conduct a thorough risk assessment to ensure its proportionality and relevance to the position.

Throughout the recruitment process, all staff at our company have received appropriate training to assess the relevance and circumstances of offences. They also receive guidance and training on relevant legislation, such as the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

During interviews or separate discussions, we ensure an open and measured dialogue regarding any relevant offences or matters. Failure to disclose directly relevant information may result in the withdrawal of an employment offer.

We inform every individual subject to a criminal record check about the existence of the code of practice and will offer a copy on request.

Our written policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders is available to all applicants at the beginning of the recruitment process. We strive to maintain a transparent and fair recruitment procedure, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all applicants.

As an independent service provider, we maintain no affiliations with any local authority or government body
